Botox & Dysport
Botox is the number one most common cosmetic procedure that is performed in the United States, with over 2.4 million people receiving Botox injections every year! There is good reason for this…Botox works beautifully at erasing wrinkles, is safe, easy, virtually painless, and requires no downtime. The results are amazing and can last 3-6 months!
Botox relaxes the muscles that cause the “expression lines” on your face, particularly frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. It is also effective for a number of other conditions, including headaches and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). The risks are few and generally mild. The main complaint from patients is that they love their Botox results so much that they have to keep on doing it!
Dysport was recently introduced as an alternative to Botox with several possible advantages. It is equally safe and effective and lasts about the same length of time as Botox, however, the onset of action may be slightly faster and the cost may be slightly less. The exciting thing about Dysport is that it also seems to work well in patients who have developed antibodies against Botox. Antibodies significantly reduce the efficacy of Botox meaning that it may not work as well or last as long. This does not seem to be a problem thus far with Dysport.
Botox and Dysport are excellent at preventing permanent wrinkles from forming. They also work well in combination with tissue fillers to provide a “liquid facelift” as well as with resurfacing laser procedures such as Palomar LUX 1540 non-ablative fractional laser or Fractional CO2 laser to help maintain the results.
