Chemical Peels

In a chemical peel, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, causing exfoliation, peeling, and new skin growth. The peels differ depending on what type of peeling solution is used and how deeply the chemical penetrates. Deeper peels result in more dramatic effects but with greater risk, discomfort, and healing time.

Types of Peels

Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peels

These are the most common peels and include glycolic acid peels. They are generally the mildest type of chemical peel and cause superficial exfoliation. These peels are used to improve pigment changes such as freckling and melasma, mild sun damage, and fine wrinkles in all skin types. Alpha hydroxy acid peels usually require a series of six treatments for maximal benefit. Our providers especially loves these superficial peels to give skin a beautiful radiant “glow” and frequently recommends them to brides before their big wedding day!

Salicylic Acid Peel

This is a salicylic acid peel, also known as a salicylic hydroxy acid peel, that is excellent for penetrating into the oil glands and unclogging the pores. The Salicylic Acid Peelis especially good for acne patients but is also used to improve pigment changes, mild sun damage, and fine wrinkles in all skin types. The Salicylic Acid Peel is considered a superficial peel and requires a series of six treatments to achieve the best results.

TCA Peels

These are medium depth chemical peels that generally may require up to a week of downtime. This is especially effective for patients with more severe sun damage, brown spots, and scars. It is also excellent for getting rid of precancerous spots called actinic keratoses. There is increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation with this stronger peel in darker skin patients.
